'Secret of Mana' Nintendo Switch: Series Coming to eShop on June 1

Square Enix's role-playing game series "Secret of Mana" is set to be released for Nintendo Switch consoles on June 1 - for Japan, at least.

Known as "Seiken Densetsu" in Japan, the Nintendo Switch version will cover the whole collection, including "Secret of Mana," its 1991 prequel titled "Final Fantasy Adventure" that's known as "Mystic Quest" in Europe, and "Seiken Densetsu 3," which has been a Japan-exclusive game since its release in 1995.

The whole collection will be available in Nintendo's eShop, which will be accessible even for Nintendo Switch users who are from outside of Japan.

The game will cost around $43. However, the whole collection uses the Japanese language, and there is no further assurance that its developers will work on an English version for the game. Square Enix did not release any statement about the matter as of the moment.

There will also be new features that will be incorporated into the game's Nintendo Switch version. This includes a quick save function that lets players save their progress anytime during the game, and a music mode feature that will allow players to listen to music from any of the three games in the "Secret of Mana" collection.

In addition, a special screen mode is also available for "Final Fantasy Adventure" which will allow players to change screen sizes during gameplay.

The first installment of the series, "Final Fantasy Adventure," was known as "Seiken Densetsu" in Japan and "Mystic Quest" in Europe. It was first released back in 1991 for the Nintendo Game Boy.

Its gameplay had similarities with "The Legend of Zelda" wherein players get a top-down camera view of a location and could move around the area to defeat enemies and interact with different characters.

The game follows a young hero and heroine who are on a mission to stop the evil Dark Lord of Glaive from destroying the Tree of Mana.

The second installment, "Secret of Mana," was released in 1993 and features a similar gameplay with its predecessor, but it involves a different mission focused on the rediscovery of the Mana Sword and the protagonist's journey towards visiting the eight Mana Temples.

The last and third installment, "Seiken Densetsu 3," was released in Japan back in 1995 and is the continuation of "Secret of Mana" in a sense that the game's protagonists venture out to forge the Mana Sword and beat the eight god beasts, finally imprisoning them in Mana Stones.
