Showtime Renews 'Ray Donovan' for Sixth Season

"Ray Donovan" has been picked up for a sixth season at Showtime.

The renewal news was announced ahead of the program's season 5 finale on Sunday, according to reports. Season 6 will be composed of 12 episodes, similar to the previous five installments. Production on the Emmy-nominated drama is scheduled to begin in early 2018. A premiere date for season 6 has yet to be announced by Showtime.

For five years, Los Angeles had been "Ray Donovan's" main setting. That changes in season 6, as the series will be moving the narrative to New York City. Executive producer David Hollander revealed to New York Post that Ray's (Liev Schreiber) big move will significantly affect not only his personal life but also his career.

"He'll be a different kind of fixer. He'll lead a grittier existence, more boots on the ground," Hollander teased. "He'll be closer to a South Boston thug."

Ray's decision to relocate comes after a year of upheaval for the Donovans. The family's matriarch Abby (Paula Malcomson) succumbed to cancer, while Ray's career took a huge hit after a Hollywood actress was discovered dead in his flat.

Their kids have also moved on to their own lives, with Bridget (Kerris Dorsey) studying at Columbia University and Conor (Devon Bagby) joining the Marines.

As season 5 comes to a close this weekend, Ray will try to fix his fractured relationship with his daughter. The famed Hollywood fixer's efforts leads him to New York where he will make amends for a past mistake.

"Ray's career has changed and he is looking for a place to rebuild his life," the EP said in a press release. "Ray thinks he went to New York to help his daughter. He's going to find out he's there to help himself."

The season 5 finale of "Ray Donovan" airs Sunday, Oct. 29, at 9 p.m. EDT on Showtime.
