'Sicario 2' Release Date, News: First Trailer Shows Return of Josh Brolin as CIA Agent Matt Graver
The first trailer for "Sicario 2: Solado" has been dropped, showing Josh Brolin getting ready to get dirty. Sony released the trailer on Tuesday ahead of the film's release in June.
The trailer offers a first glimpse of Benicio Del Toro, who is set to return for the sequel as undercover operative Alejandro Gillick, as well as Brolin as CIA agent Matt Graver. In the clip, Brolin enters a room full of government officials and tells them, "You want to see this thing through? I'm going to have to get dirty."
Both Del Toro and Brolin starred in the original film with Emily Blunt in 2015. As the franchise returns for its second installment, the partners in crime will find themselves in the midst of a war against drugs somewhere along the United States-Mexico border. The synopsis for the sequel reveals that as the drug cartels smuggle terrorists across the U.S. border, Gillick and Graver will plan on pitting the cartels against each other.
One scene in the trailer shows Graver telling Gillick that he will start a war. "Against who?" asked Del Toro's character. "Everyone," answered Graver. The clip then features some helicopters hovering around the desert, with sounds of gunfire and scenes of vehicles exploding.
Aside from Brolin and Del Toro, other cast members of "Sicario 2: Soldado" are Matthew Modine, Catherine Kenner, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Jeffrey Donovan. It was produced by Basil Iwanyk, Edward L. McDonnell, Molly Smith, Thad Luckinbill, and Trent Luckinbill, and executive produced by Ellen H. Schwartz, Richard Middleton and Erica Lee.
The first "Sicario" movie hit theaters in 2015 with a reported budget of $30 million. It became a box office hit, earning $84.8 million worldwide.
Directed by Italian filmmaker Stefano Sollima, the film was written by Taylor Sheridan and done in partnership with the Black Label Media. The film opens in theaters on June 29, 2018.
