SkyView Atlanta Ferris Wheel Opens Tuesday at 200 Feet Tall

Keeping up with the Londoners, Atlanta has just introduced a 20-story tall Ferris wheel, which will open to the public on Tuesday.

The new Ferris wheel will be placed in the downtown area of Atlanta, Georgia. Spectators stood nearby on Tuesday as the city prepared a gathering for the city attraction's first debut. A grand ceremony was schedule at noon with Atlanta Mayor Kasim and other notable figures expected to attend, according to local news stations.

Much like the London Eye, the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, those who patron the ride will enjoy both a good view and guaranteed good climate.

"SkyView Atlanta is going to be open pretty much 365 days out of the year," Jason Evans, a SkyView Atlanta spokesman, told reporters. "It's going to be really fun. All the cars, all the gondolas, are climate-controlled, so it'll be cool in the summer and warm in the winter."

The new attraction will be a year round activity for both residents and visitors.

"For locals we think they are going to want to do this over and over again because it presents a unique view of the area, when you're down here with kids they're going to see it and want to take part in it," Evans said.

The Ferris wheel is located on Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Luckie Street. Tickets are $13.50 for adults and $8.50 for kids. But Atlanta is not the first location that SkyView has been placed in.

"SkyView was originally in Paris right across from the Louvre Museum. It was also in Switzerland for a little while, and then in Pensacola, Florida. Pensacola was always a temporary destination. We moved it from there to here because we though Centennial Olympic Park was the perfect place for this attraction," Evans noted.

At 20 stories high, the new Ferris wheel is hard to miss.

"When we first arrived in town the first thing I saw was this, because it's white and there's nothing else like it nearby," Sandra Wong told Alive news.
