Snake vs Crocodile: Winner Eats the Loser After Epic 5-Hour Battle (VIDEO)

A snake vs. crocodile battle ended after five hours of serious struggle near an Australian lake Sunday. Passersby managed to capture the ferocious fight on video camera and in pictures, detailing the moment the crocodile gave up and the snake devoured it whole.

The snake and crocodile battle happened at Lake Moondarra, which isn't far from Mount Isa in northern Queensland. The 10-foot python was seen wrestling with the 3-foot crocodile in the water by many visitors to the lake. Tiffany Corlis, an author, was nearby and decided to take pictures of the creatures.

"It was amazing," Corlis told BBC News. "We saw the snake fighting with the crocodile— it would roll the crocodile around to get a better grip, and coil its body around the crocodile's legs to hold it tight."

The author said that the snake seemed to be trying to drown the leathery reptile, but to no avail— the crocodile managed to keep its head above water for hours as they struggled.

Another witness, Alyce Rosenthal, told Australian media outlets that it is definitely "not something you see every day."

As the clash wore on though, both animals seemed to tire out and weaken. After it all, the crocodile just "gave in," Corlis said. From there, spectators were treated to a bizarre demonstration: a snake attempting to eat a crocodile far wider than itself.

"It was unbelievable, we were sort of thinking the snake had bitten off a little more than it could chew," Corlis recounted. "Pardon the pun, but it did actually eat the crocodile."

The python managed to swallow the croc whole in just under 15 minutes, according to reports.
