Sony PlayStation VR Specs News: Gear Equipped With Its Own Headset
Sony has confirmed that a new version of the PlayStation VR headset is in development and that they have made slight design changes to the latest model.
Model number CUH-ZVR2 of the new PlayStation VR is equipped with integrated stereo headphone cables. The tech giant came up with a sleek and effective solution for the audio connectivity, which Sony describes as a slimmer, streamlines connection cable.
They have eliminated the need to attach additional headphones to the device by equipping the gear with its own headset, placed at the headpiece's rear head mount.
"There's also an updated Processor Unit that supports HDR pass through, enabling users to enjoy HDR-compatible PS4 content on a TV without having to disconnect the Processor Unit in between the TV and the PS4 system," Sony announced on its blog. "This function can be used only when the VR headset is turned off."
What this means for PlayStation 4 users is that they will not have to disconnect the VR headset from the console to view HDR content.
The new feature makes it more convenient for gamers unfortunately owners of the current VR gear will not be able to exchange the old processor for a new one. Sony emphasized that they used a different model for the new cables.
The tech giant expressed the need to check the products' model numbers upon purchasing. The packaging should display the gear's model numbers, with the first being CUH-ZVR1 and the latest being CUH-ZVR2.
But to avoid confusion, the company said that they have also changed the packaging. The product image of the new VR headset should come with an emphasis on the integrated stereo headphones.
Sony's upcoming PlayStation VR headset will be launched in Japan first on Saturday, Oct. 14. It is expected to cost the same as the previous installment, $399. All previously released PSVR games will be playable on the latest model.
