Sony Xperia XZ Premium Release Date, Specs News: Smartphone with 4K HDR display, Snapdragon 835 and Super Slow Motion Camera Unveiled
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC), Sony Mobile unveiled its latest range of Xperia smartphones including the Xperia XZ Premium — a device equipped with so many flagship-level components as well as innovative and intelligent features.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium features a 5.5-inch 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) display with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and pixel density of 801 pixels per inch (ppi). The smartphone's screen, which is on par with most televisions in terms of quality, will allow users to stream video content with breathtaking clarity and intense color reproduction.
There is also a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 panel on top for added protection and the device has an IP68 certification which makes it water-resistant and dust-proof. In terms of design, the Xperia XZ Premium has a beautiful glass loop surface with a mirror effect on the back panel. All components are seamlessly integrated, like the fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button.
Aside from a high-quality display, Sony's Xperia smartphones are expected to have impressive cameras and the XZ Premium does not disappoint. Sony has used imaging technologies from its premium compact cameras to equip the new smartphone with the Motion Eye camera system.
The Xperia XZ Premium's rear camera comes with a 19-megapixel (MP) Exmor RS sensor. Compared with other smartphones, it delivers five times faster image scanning and data transfer. Users will be able to capture up to 960 frames per second and see details that the human eye could have missed via the super slow-motion video playback. Furthermore, the camera's Predictive Capture feature ensures that special moments won't be missed as the camera starts buffering when motion is detected — even before the button is pressed.
Meanwhile, the smartphone is also equipped with a 13-MP front camera for selfies and video calls. With these imaging technologies, users won't have a hard time capturing sharp and clear pictures even in low-light shooting conditions.
The Xperia XZ Premium is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and the Adreno 540 graphics chip. There is 4 GB of random-access memory (RAM) and 64 GB of built-in storage, with a microSD card slot for up to 256 GB of expanded memory.
The device runs the Android 7.1 Nougat operating system (OS) out of the box. Other notable features include a USB 3.1 Type-C port and a 3,230 mAh battery.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium will be available in two colors: Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black. It is scheduled to go on sale in the spring. Pricing has yet to be announced.
