Sports News: Kevin Spacey Graces Panthers Game, Surprises Fans with a Mask of His Face
The Florida Panthers game became a huge hit despite its loss to Detroit on Saturday as the famous Kevin Spacey surprised fans when he showed up at the game with a mask of his own face.
Spacey isn't just the president of the United States in "House of Cards" but he also happens to be a beloved icon for the people of Florida. According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor showed up with a mask of his own face and a blue sweatshirt that has become an all-time favorite among fans.
The outlet further notes that the team had been giving away blue sweatshirts with Spacey's face plastered on the face of the game's MVP as part of its "Spacey in Space" campaign. While it remains a secret what the inside joke means, the Panthers have also been using the a hashtag of the phrase and it is become quite popular around social media.
During the Panthers vs. Detroit game, the Florida team distributed Spacey masks to fans and later on, the big screen revealed that the actor was one of the audiences who received a mask.
In a clip released by the Panthers on its official Twitter page, fans around Spacey immediately went in a frenzy after realizing that they were just sitting beside the award-winning actor.
Though the Panthers lost the game, the experience was etched in the hearts of fans who, like Spacey, are supporting the team. He said in an interview with the Today show last month that he is "pleased" with the team's progress, as reported by the Miami Herald. "I've become their sort of good luck charm, and I'm pleased they've been doing incredibly well. I am Spacey in space, and I'm very excited for them," he said.
Spacey is widely acclaimed for his performance as President Frank Underwood in "House of Cards." For the said role, he received a Golden Globes Award and two consecutive Screen Actors Guild Award.
