Star Jones to Appear on 'The View'
Star Jones will return to "The View" but just for one day. She is making a guest appearance on today's episode at 11 a.m. on ABC. The former co-host hasn't been back to "The View" since her acrimonious departure in 2006.
Back in 2006, Jones abruptly announced her departure from the show, on air – much to the surprise of her three co-hosts. She said she planned to leave at the end of the season. However, the next day, Jones was not sitting at "The View" table.
Barbara Walters explained Jones' absence. Walters told the audience, "We didn't expect [Star Jones] to make the statement yesterday, she gave us no warning ... but the truth is that Star has known for months that ABC did not want to renew her contract."
Walters went on to explain that she had never intended to share that information with the public. She explained that the plan was to give Jones enough time to find another place of employment and let her announce that as her reason for leaving.
Walters told the audience she and the network wanted Jones to "leave with dignity, but Star made another choice." Walters goes on to explain that because of Jones' abrupt unplanned announcement, "Star will no longer be on this program."
And the hard feelings between Walters and Jones didn't stop there. According to The Inquisitor, Walters later revealed that Jones had asked her and the other View co-stars to lie and not mention Jones' gastric bypass surgery on the show.
Jones did not take this lying down, and fought back by attacking Walters for writing about an affair in her autobiography.
But with Jones scheduled to appear on "The View" at 11 a.m. today, fans of the show are left wondering if Jones and Walters have patched things up, or if there will be a confrontation between the two former co-hosts this morning.
