'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' News: Alternate Footage Sheds Light on Luke Skywalker Scene in Previous Trailer

Recently, a new trailer for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" was released, sparking speculations about who Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) might be talking to — Rey (Daisy Ridley) or Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Earlier this week, an alternate edit of the said trailer was dropped, clearing a plot point involving Luke and the dark warrior.

In the previous trailer for the next installment in the "Star Wars" trilogy, one scene shows Luke saying, "I've seen this raw strength only once before. It didn't scare me enough then. It does now." Luke's line hints that the upcoming film will find the Jedi master petrified for the first time of someone's Force abilities. Following the release of the trailer, fans were quick to speculate that the person he's talking to is Kylo Ren, considering how strong his Force abilities are.

Fans of the "Star Wars" franchise will understand Luke's worries. It can be recalled that previously, his nephew Ben Solo, whom he trained in the ways of the Jedi, eventually betrayed him when Ben Solo chose to turn to the dark side.

Although the most plausible theory as to who Luke is talking to in the trailer is Kylo Ren, the new alternate trailer reveals that he's actually talking about Ben Solo, not Kylo Ren or Rey. The new preview runs about a minute less than the previous trailer, cutting out the scene involving Supreme Leader Snoke.

The footage reveals some changes to the original one, cutting to the shot of Kylo Ren picking up his lightsaber. The remarkable scene in the edited footage is almost similar to the TV spot that was released last weekend during the World Series, and it makes it clear that Luke is simply talking about Ben Solo in the previous trailer.

Directed by Rian Johnson, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is set to hit theaters on Dec. 15.
