Starbucks Offering 'Cherry Blossom Frappuccino" to Celebrate Spring
With spring fast approaching, food establishments such as Starbucks released limited edition products to celebrate the occasion.
It was reported that Starbucks came out with a new drink to celebrate the season of blooming. And consumers will have a chance to taste the new "Cherry Blossom Frappuccino" for just one week. The drink will be available in the United States from Mar. 15 to Mar. 20 to mark the beginning of spring.
Japanese branches of Starbucks regularly serve similar beverages such as "Sakura Blossom & Strawberry Frappuccino" as well as the "Sakura Blosson & Strawberry Latte." According to a press release regarding the new beverage, the drink is symbolic of spring.
"In Japan, cherry blossoms are the national flower and a symbol of renewal and simplicity. Families, friends and colleagues gather under sakura trees and enjoy picnics and parties under the delicate pink blooms. Sakura festivals around the world honor the return of the cherry blossoms and celebrate Japanese culture," said Starbucks.
However, the release of the beverage in the United States was met with some criticism regarding its authenticity to the Japanese traditions.
The fact that the limited edition "Cherry Blossom Frappuccino" is made with strawberries and cream, with hints of matcha seemed to frustrate some consumers who were confused with Starbucks' decision to make the beverage out of strawberries instead of cherries.
The Washington Post also mentioned some cultural factors that were missed by the big franchise. The source explained that Sakura is the Japanese word for "cherry tree."
Nevertheless, there is still much excitement surrounding the new featured Starbucks beverage.
