'Starcraft II' News: 'Whispers of Oblivion' Free to Play, Ahead of 'Legacy of the Void' Release
The final standalone expansion set for "Starcraft II," titled "Legacy of the Void," is coming on November 10. And in a bid to get more people to purchase the upcoming title, publisher Blizzard has made it possible for anyone to try out and play "Starcraft II" for free. Through a recently released Patch 3.0, gamers can now get a "small taste" of the game by making available "Whispers of Oblivion" for free, according to a report in PC World.
"Whispers of Oblivion" comprises of three prologue missions that involves Dark Templar Zeratul and ties the upcoming content "Legacy of the Void" to the previously released "Heart of the Swarm." It was originally free or available only for those who pre-ordered "Legacy of the Void." With the patch, what all gamers need to do to play "Starcraft II" is, with their Battle.net account, go to the "Starcraft II" section and download the starter pack from there.
With the mini-missions comes improvements in the game, such as changes in the user interface, which is being done in preparation for the upcoming new content. Easy access to each of the three expansions is also available in the new interface. Among the changes in the interface include the location of all major navigation to the top of the screen and a redesign in the chat system, including increasing the maximum number of people that can chat all at once to 200.
Meanwhile, a hero of the Protoss Campaign, who is named Artanis, will be making an early appearance in the game, according to a report in IGN. He is set to arrive on October 27, well ahead of the November 10 "Legacy" release. For those who preordered "Legacy," they can have early access to Artanis between October 20 to 27.
"Legacy of the Void" is the third part of the "Starcraft II" game, which consists of the Protoss campaign. The first part was "Wings of Liberty" while the second part was "Heart of the Swarm."
