"Stranger Things 2" has just started its run, but it is already dominating social media. A new report suggests that the series is the most tweeted-about streaming series today, breaking a major social media record during the past weekend.
The hit series by the Duffer brothers reportedly became the most talked about streaming show on Twitter over an opening weekend in 2017, garnering at least 3.7 million tweets after its premiere. The report was released Monday and was based on data provided by the microblogging site.
The report shows that between the premiere episode of "Stranger Things" season 2 at 3 a.m. EST on Friday, Oct. 27 and Monday, Oct. 30, the show has been tweeted about more than 3.7 million times. According to the report, the show was most tweeted about between 11 a.m. and 12 noon on Friday, a few hours after the new season premiered on Netflix. The report suggests that oddly, many people tweeted about the show while at work last Friday.

The data submitted by Twitter only suggest that "Stranger Things" is today's most popular streaming show. According to the report, the show was able to take over Twitter even when pitted against other huge premieres on Netflix this 2017, such as "Orange is the New Black" and "House of Cards."
The report reveals that the tweets about the "Stranger Things" season 2 premiere were far greater in number than the tweets about two of Netflix's popular shows, such as "House of Cards," which received only 54,458 mentions on Twitter, and "Orange is the New Black," which received only 105,753 mentions within two days of their premieres.
The report also notes that "House of Cards" might have been at a disadvantage because of its May 30 premiere, a Tuesday. Meanwhile, the first seasons of "House of Cards" and "Stranger Things" premiered last June 9, a Friday.
