Surface Mini Release Date Coming Before Christmas 2014 Season
Microsoft's mini tablet offering, the Surface Mini, still hasn't been announced for release but rumors place the release date sometime during the Christmas season – and in limited supply. While it's uncertain, Microsoft's release of the Surface Pro 3 and announcement of Windows 10 indicate that it won't be too long before the Surface Mini's release.
The Microsoft Surface tablet line hasn't been the most successful in the market but it certainly is unique. Unlike Android and Apple tablets, Microsoft's tablets are essentially full spec PCs running on Windows 8 but in tablet form.
It's also more versatile than its Android and Apple opponents, with the Surface tablets equipped with a digital pen allowing for full tablet use. Attaching a separate keyboard accessory, a mouse, and a separate display allows it to function like a PC. Putting it in a case alongside the keyboard accessory will let it function like a laptop.
Alongside the release date, it is unclear how much the Surface Mini will cost. Rumors place the price tag to be somewhere near the $450 mark.
Specs-wise, the Surface Mini will come with an 8-inch display, a Qualcomm processor, 1GB of RAM, and will run on Windows RT 8.1. Much like a laptop, the Surface Mini will be getting USB support, microSD card support, and will be coming with the digital pen which also came with the Surface Pro 3.
As far as appearance goes, the Surface Mini looks a lot like a Surface Pro 3 albeit smaller.
