Boston Celtics NBA 2015 Trade News, Rumors: Tayshaun Prince Upset With Celtics After Surprise Trade
Tayshaun Prince is a little upset with the management of the Boston Celtics. Although he was not in Boston for long, there was apparently some miscommunication with how the team was going to handle his situation. Boston is choosing to go young and since Prince was never in their long term plans, the two were destined to part way sooner rather than later.
Prince understandably wanted a buyout so he could be free to sign with a team of his choosing, likely a contender, he seems to feel that the team was going to do just that. However, at the NBA trade deadline, the Detroit Pistons swooped in, offering Boston young talent for Prince.
The Celtics management has a responsibility to maximize the return on their assets, which partially explains the trade. The team was going in a new direction and no longer needed Prince's talents and instead of eating a contract they dealt it and got some of the young talent the team wants to build around.
Prince's feelings are understandable, though. He was dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies after a decade with the Pistons where he was a star and a NBA champion, and he was just traded to the Celtics in January. Knowing that he was not going to be with Boston very long, one can understand why he wanted a little more say in his final destination for this season and possibly beyond.
"Me and Danny had several conversations, and like I said before, all options were on the table because I knew they were trying to go young, I thought no trade was going to happen at all," Prince admitted. "I was going to be in Boston and see what happened, whether the buyout was going to happen or not. The buyout wasn't 100 percent."
