Tech News: PlayStation Vue Cord-Cutting Service Rolls Out Starting at $30 Nationwide

Live streaming and movie marathons have just become a whole lot easier as Sony recently released the PlayStation Vue for as low as $30 per month all around the United States.

PlayStation Vue is a service that allows consumers to stream live and on-demand television shows over the internet- minus the cable TV subscription that many people are used to. Packages are available for those who might prefer additional channels but with as little as $30, consumers can watch their favorite shows no matter where they are in the U.S.

According to CNET, the service was only available to Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, and Miami but on Monday, Sony decided that it's best for the rest of the country to experience the non-traditional TV packages.

Back then, the service was also tagged with the startup of $40 and up and while some smaller towns such as Houston, Detroit, and Portland can only avail of the "Slim" packages, the channels offered are still hot on the favorites list of viewers.

With the "Slim" plan, consumers already have more than 55 channels to watch including ESPN, FX, AMC, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon, but according to Sony's press release about the service, "Content from ABC, FOX and NBC will be available only as on-demand content in the Slim multi-channel plans."

Another thing to be noted by consumers living in the seven original markets mentioned above is that they won't be able to avail of the "Slim" plan. While this means they will have to pay the original price of $40 per month, plans are also being made by the company for the future that would hopefully create a similar package for the said areas.

Tech Hive says the possible reason why Sony decided to limit the availability of the "Slim" plan is due to some local broadcast affiliates who do not allow streaming services to integrate their live programming feeds in the streaming systems.

Consumers who are planning to ditch cable TV altogether and switch to Vue, a stable broadband Internet connection, a compatible device, and most importantly, an active subscription, are all needed to use the service.
