Teen Misses Trip, Friends Killed in Horrific Newport Beach, California Car Crash (VIDEO)

A teen who missed a trip with friends earlier this week, has learned that his friends were later killed in an horrific car crash which saw the vehicle split in two and engulfed in flames.

According to reports, Tamer Mosallam, 17, was hoping to travel off with friends for a Memorial Day trip to the beach. However, he was stopped from going as his father refused to allow him to go.

As his friends went off without him it was the last time that Mosallam would see his friends alive, as they died later on Monday in a crash that has stunned locals in Newport Beach, California.

His five teenage friends, two boys and three girls, died when their car veered of the road and slammed into a tree.

"I was supposed to be with them in the car, that's why there were three girls," Mosallam said, according to The Associated Press.

He further explained that he was supposed to have been the third boy in a three-way double date among the six friends. "They came to my house but my dad wouldn't let me go out because I was studying for a test."

Counselors were invited to Irvine High School on Wednesday to offer support to students, according to Ian Hanigan, a spokesman for the Irvine Unified School District.

"There are simply no words to convey the sorrow felt by our students and staff, nor are there sufficient answers to explain the loss of five vibrant teenagers from our schools and this community," Irvine Unified School District Superintendent Terry Walker said in a statement.

Police have since said that they believe speed was a factor in the crash. They have confirmed no other vehicles were involved in the incident, but that their investigations were still ongoing.
