Telltale Games to Layoff 25% of Its Workforce
Telltale Games, the company that developed the "Walking Dead" game series, is laying off around 25% of its overall workforce soon as part of its comprehensive company restructuring. The game developer confirmed the news on Wednesday.
In an official statement, Telltale confirmed that around 90 members of its staff would lose their jobs as part of this company-wide effort. According to the company, the massive layoff is meant to make Telltale "more competitive as a developer and publisher of groundbreaking story-driven gaming experiences with an emphasis on high quality in the years ahead."
Telltale also indicated that the restructuring would serve as a means to advance the technology it uses for its internal projects, saying that the company would soon move over to more proven technologies to help them expedite the innovation of its core products.
According to Telltale, the gaming industry has changed in tremendous ways over the past few years, so it is only imperative that they step up their game as well. "The realities of the environment we face moving forward demand we evolve, as well, reorienting our organization with a focus on delivering fewer, better games with a smaller team," said Telltale Games CEO Pete Hawley in a statement.
Towards the end of the company's statement, Telltale expressed its respect and appreciation for all the contributions that their artists, game developers, and storytellers have given to the company throughout the years. The company also promised to provide full career assistance services to those who will be affected by the massive layoff.
Meanwhile, Telltale assured fans that the layoff would not affect the development of any of the games previously announced by the company.
Telltale is the game developer behind some of the most popular gaming titles today like "The Walking Dead," "Batman," and "Minecraft Story Mode." Recently, the company has just also wrapped the debut season of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" game.
