'The Blacklist' Season 3 Recap/Update: Liz Fails To Get Asylum In Russia, Red Gets New Lawyer

"The Blacklist" TV series is back for its third season and as earlier reported, main protagonist Liz Keen is no longer an FBI agent and is now a fugitive on the run. The season's first episode saw Liz sporting blonde hair while on the run. Towards the end of the episode, she finds her way into the Russian Embassy and claims that she is a Russian spy and would like to seek asylum.

Based on a recap in Speak Easy, the second episode, which was aired last October 8, shows Liz pretending to be Masha Rostova, a Russian deep cover agent, and talking to some officials at the Russian embassy. As she was speaking to a high-ranking intelligence officer who knew that she was not a spy, she admitted that she wanted to get diplomatic immunity in order to stop the Cabal from starting another Cold War. The official said that the Russians wanted to hear her out but she needed to go to Moscow to say her piece. As she was being transported to the airport, one of the guards at the embassy was shown alerting the Cabal's Matheus Solomon that Liz was on her way. The Cabal was apparently planning on killing her before she even boarded the plane.

Their plan was foiled when Red told FBI Agent Ressler about the plan to kill Liz and who attacked the transport. This resulted in a shootout and the killing of one of the Russian guards. Liz was able to escape and find her way to a diner where she is meeting with Red. While they were at the diner, their location was leaked to the FBI and they end up being surrounded, prompting them to take the customers in the diner hostage. Among the demands that Red wanted was to have the FBI release a lawyer named Marvin Gerard who has been imprisoned for kidnapping his own son. Red's intention was to talk to Gerard who he thinks can help him and Liz out of the trouble they are in.

The hostage situation ended with the FBI storming the diner, only to find out that Gerard, Liz and Red were nowhere to be found out. It turns out that Red had orchestrated the whole hostage situation in order to get Gerard out of prison.

In the aftermath of their escape, Ressler is left wondering where Gerard fits into Red's plan. Towards the end of the episode, Ressler is accosted by none other than Liz's husband, Tom Keen. Liz and Red on the other hand continue to plan how they are going to clear their names, with the help of Gerard.
