'The Division' News: Ubisoft Reveals Additional Game Details As Release Approaches

The third person shooter video game "Tom Clancy's The Division" recently finished its closed-alpha and despite the non-disclosure agreements with those who participated, leaked alpha footage found its way online somehow. Ubisoft, through the game's associate creative director Julian Gerighty, revealed additional details about the game in an interview with IGN.

According to Gerighty, the game places a lot of emphasis on it being a role-playing game. The players' choices in terms of what kind of weapons he will use, what kind of skills he will have, what talents he needs to develop and the mods is at the heart of the game's RPG experience. He said in the interview: "Do you want to build yourself out as a particularly lethal long range sniper agent who is able to push forward in that one challenging late game mission or are you going to step in the shoes of a healer with your group to make sure that your entire squad makes it?" Decision-making such as this is what Gerighty says sets the game apart from others.

When asked about whether the game has an ending to speak of, Gerighty said that the game's open world is coupled with a non-linear structure, but he still said that the game has a "conclusion to its narrative journey."

Gerighty was also asked about what major changes the game has undergone since its first unveiling. He replied by saying that the Base of Operations is now an important and central part of the game. Earlier versions of the game had relegated the Base of Operations as "an optional side activity."

As far as late-game or end-game content that will be made available, Gerighty mentioned something called "the Dark Zone" which is an area where players will be "competing at the highest level for the best equipment" against factions as well as other players.

The game is on track for a March 8, 2016 release. It will available on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and the PC.
