'The Flash' Season 3 Release Date, News, Spoilers: New Supervillains on Next Installment; The Rival Flash, Mirror Master, Top, And...Rosa Dillon?

The world of Barry Allen (Grant Justin) is filled with superheroes and super villains sharing the same name and superpowers. There's Kid Flash (played by Wally West), Barry's trusty sidekick; Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher), The Flash's archnemesis; even the universe he currently resides in is called "Flashpoint." One would think they'd eventually run out of syllables or words to latch on to "Flash" to make sure everyone gets that they're part of the CW series. But the new "The Flash" trailer reveals Barry's new rival - and yes, his name is the Rival Flash.

Brief background on "The Rival Flash"

But beyond the less-than-subtle super villain name, the Rival Flash ("The Vampire Diaries" star Todd Lasance) might have something on everyone's favorite speedster. In the new "The Flash" Season 3 promo, we see Barry's The Flash and his rival go at it in an action-packed brawl. However, the Rival Flash isn't out to search and destroy: he only seems to focus solely on screwing with The Flash.

Comic book fans would recognize the Rival Flash as Dr. Edward Clariss, a professor who think he's recreated the substance that gives The Flash his superhuman speed. This is his CW debut, and will join the long array of The Flash's super enemies, among which are the Reverse Flash and Zoom.

Other supervillains on The Flash?

Oh, and don't worry. There's a bunch of new super villains who aren't named after several variations of "The Flash." Fans can look forward to the return of Killer Frost as Kevin Smith directs "The Flash" Season 3 Episode 2. They can also expect Mirror Master, Top, Doctor Alchemy and Savitar!

Just a brief recap of the following super villains: Mirror Master, also known as Sam Scudder, is a criminal who uses, well, mirrors as tactical weapons. He will be played by Grey Damon on "The Flash" Season 3. Top, or Roscoe Dillon, spins fast enough to present a challenge against The Flash. But if the casting files are to be trusted, it looks like the CW series is casting a "Rosa," not Roscoe Dillon. Can it be The Flash's first major female nemesis?

Where the show will be picking up

"The Flash" Season 3 premiere, which airs Oct. 4 on CW, will be picking up from where Season 2 left off. Barry Allen had managed to stick his landing on the "Flashpoint" alternate universe, where both his mom is alive and his dad didn't go to jail. All is seemingly perfect, until he starts to lose his memory of who he was. Worse, his powers also begin to fade away. He then must make the choice to go back to his imperfect life as a superhero, or lose grip of his identity and responsibilities back on his universe.
