'The Flash' Season 4: Next Big Villain Revealed?

The CW's "The Flash" may have just revealed its next big villain for season 4. A small clue from this week's episode titled "Abra Kadabra" has led to speculation that Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) may be having a showdown with The Thinker in the future, once he puts Savitar to rest.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Barry faced future villain Abra Kadabra (David Dastmalchian) during last Tuesday's episode of "The Flash," and he enumerated a list of The Flash's greatest foes. The list included Thawne (Matt Letscher), Zoom (Teddy Sears), Savitar and lastly, DeVoe — a villain who has yet to be introduced in the TV series.

In DC Comics, Clifford DeVoe is a genius inventor who is otherwise known by his supervillain name, The Thinker. He uses scientific devices, such as his notorious Thinking Cap, for evil purposes. He was a member of the Injustice Society and Suicide Squad, and a known enemy of The Flash.

DeVoe's character debuted in 1943 "All-Star Flash" #12. He was a failed lawyer who turned to a life of crime when he realized that while his criminal clients had the skills, they did not have the smarts to lead a life of villainy. Hence, he became the brains of the operations of many career criminals.

Aside from using the Thinking Cap, DeVoe can also project mental force and control other high-tech technology.

Outside of DeVoe's character, The Thinker has surfaced in the DC world over the years as Clifford "Cliff" Carmichael and Des Connor. Since there are many versions of the supervillain, the TV series might combine all of them to form one character.

While the mention of DeVoe could mean that he will be just another villain-of-the-week that The Flash will be encountering in the future, there are those who believe that he will be the main villain in season 4 with a major story arc of his own. This is further supported by the way Abra Kadabra brought up DeVoe's name along with other season-long antagonists that have appeared in the show.

"The Flash" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
