'The Good Wife' Season 7 News: Is Julianna Margulies Leaving The Series?

The fate of CBS' popular legal and political drama series "The Good Wife" has been in question ever since Michelle and Robert King, its creators, announced that they will be leaving the series at the end of Season 7 to focus on other projects. The announcement about the Kings' impending exit was made by new CBS Entertainment president Glen Geller earlier this month at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour.

Now, "The Good Wife" star Julianna Margulies has fuelled speculation that the series will soon be bidding viewers farewell with a recent comment about soon becoming unemployed.

Margulies gave a speech in honor of Michelle and Robert King at the Casting Society of America's third annual Artios Awards last week and she said, as quoted by Vulture: "I surprised Robert and Michelle tonight. They didn't know I was going to be here. They think I'm here for them, but I'm unemployed come April, and I think you haven't seen me in a while, at least not in person, so I thought I should show up."

Though the Kings have frequently said that they intended the series to have a seven-season run, the actress' surprising statement left several questions about "The Good Wife." Is Margulies exiting the series? Or is the show ending after Season 7? Should the actress exit and the series be renewed for an eighth season, how will "The Good Wife" continue without its "good wife?"

"It could certainly go on," Geller told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month. "You can see every year the producers are able to reinvent what the show looks like." The CBS boss pointed to cast departures (Matthew Goode, Archie Panjabi) and additions (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Cush Jumbo) as examples of how the show has evolved during its seven seasons on air. "The show looks very different than it did three years ago and it's still a fantastic show," Geller said.

"The Good Wife" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
