'The Last of Us 2' Rumors: Cordyceps Virus Infect Animals Too

Naughty Dog has recently released the latest poster for "The Last of Us 2,'' and it has fueled speculation that the highly anticipated game sequel may now feature animals getting infected with the cordyceps virus.

There is no denying that "The Last of Us 2'' is one of the most anticipated game sequels. While little is known about the game, as it was only announced at last year's PlayStation Experience event, the recently released poster for it in line with the game's Outbreak Day last week has seemingly teased that it will feature more wildlife in its story and gameplay.

As seen on the recently released poster, a face of a wolf is hidden in the image of a fire. While no one outside Naughty Dog can really tell the significance of the said animal, some can't help but speculate that wildlife may play a vital role in the story and gameplay of "The Last of Us 2.''

This is not the first time for "The Last of Us 2'' to tease the presence of animals, wild or domesticated in the game. Earlier, the production behind it also teased the presence of a horse when its director, Neil Druckmann, shared a photo on his personal Twitter account last April, showing his co-writer Halley Gross riding a mock-up horse in a motion capture studio somewhere in Los Angeles.

Last June, Druckmann and Gross also shared a video and photo on Twitter showing a pig for a motion capture session.

Now that it is apparent that "The Last of Us 2" will feature animals, some can't help but suspect that the cordyceps virus, which turned humans into zombies in the first game, may have infected the animals as well. However, this will remain a speculation until Naughty Dog confirms that it will really be the case.

Meanwhile, Naughty Dog has yet to announce the release date for "The Last of Us 2." Nonetheless, more details about the game are expected at this December's PlayStation Experience event.
