'The Originals' Season 3 Release Date News: Crossover with 'The Vampire Diaries'

Fans of the two CW vampire series "The Originals" and "The Vampire Diaries" will be happy to know that their favorite characters could be meeting each other again soon.

The CW President mark Pedowitz recently shared some exciting news during the Television Critics Association winter press tour. He revealed that a crossover for "The Originals" and "The Vampire Diaries" will be happening in the near future.

He said, "You will see, organically, a crossover this year. Not of the size and scope of we do with 'Arrow' and 'Flash.' They have to make sense [story-wise]."

The executive producer of the two series, Julie Plec, also shared some insight on what fans can expect when the two series meet. She stated, "Stefan finds himself very much in need of a mystical safe haven. And as we've seen on 'The Originals,' there is a bar called The St. James Infirmary, in which no magic can permeate. So he goes to seek refuge in New Orleans and comes face-to-face with Klaus Mikaelson because, of course, nothing happens in Klaus' town without Klaus knowing. I call it the reunion of the Bourbon buddies."

With that, fans will have to see how the story will pan out, since the midseason finale of "The Originals" saw Klaus devastated after finding Cami dead. It was revealed that she was killed by Klaus' former romantic interest, Auora.

The midseason premiere will be titled "A Ghost Along the Mississipi," which will see Klaus avenging the death of Cami. However, there has yet to be any details revealed regarding how he will do so. In addition, it will also see Freya and Elijah working together to take down The Strix. It was revealed that there will be a face-off between Elijah and Tristan, who will have a dangerous weapon.

"The Originals" is expected to return on The CW this Jan. 29.
