'The Purge: Election Year' First Trailer Released, Plot To Take Place In White House
The third sequel of the film "The Purge" is hitting the big screen this year and fans were treated to a sneak peek on what it will be all about through the release of its first trailer. Titled as "The Purge: Election Year," the third installment of the social science fiction horror thriller film stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Senator Charlene Roan and Frank Grillo as Sergeant Barnes.
According to Slash Film, the storyline of the film will be set in the White House as Roan will be running for President of the United Stated of America. Her main campaign is eliminating the Purge, which is an annual 12-hour period that legalizes all sorts of crimes including murder and all police and medical services are shut down. However, the affluent are in contrast to Roan's campaign because they believe that the event eradicates the poor people.
The trailer teased that Roan failed to stop the Purge which puts her life in danger as she has become the target of an assassination. Because she's been betrayed, she is now out on the D.C. streets on a night where she won't be able to find the police or get medical help from hospitals. However, Sergeant Barnes, her head of security, is with her and with him, Roan struggles to escape death and they run to save their lives.
In an interview with Collider, Grillo stated that the movie is going to be great since it has an exemplary script. "The script is genius! I love these movies. I wasn't a big fan of the first one, but when [James] DeMonaco sent me the second script and asked me if I wanted to do it, I said, 'Yes, I love this movie!'" said Grillo.
"The Purge: Election Year" will be once again directed by James DeMonaco. Other names in the cast include Edwin Hodge, Mykelti Williamson and Kyle Secor. The film will be released on July 1 in cinemas.
