'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Will Be The Last

Co-creator Kevin Williamson and stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Michael Malarkey, Matt Davis, Zach Roerig, Kat Graham and Candice King joined the panel as Plec announced the hit CW series' cancellation.

Shortly after the announcement, "The Vampire Diaries" casts and showrunners showcased an emotional farewell video "TVD Forever" in recognition of the show's forthcoming end. In the nine-minute video, the stars and producers talked about the impact of the show to their lives and thanked their loyal fan base for making the past seven seasons a huge hit.

Somerhalder, Wesley Look Back

After the announcement, Somerhalder and Wesley, who became household names for portraying the vampire brothers Damon and Stefan Salvatore, turned emotional as they shared how "The Vampire Diaries" changed their lives and careers.

Somerhalder told EOnline that he is very thankful to those people who fought in order for him to bag the role of Damon Salvatore. "This show has enriched my life greater than anything I've done in my career," the actor stated.

Moreover, Wesley said that being cast as Stefan Salvatore has changed the trajectory of his life. He added that he is beyond fortunate for the lessons he learned and experiences he had with the show in the past seven years.

What To Look Forward To With 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8

In a statement to CNN, CW president Mark Pedowitz said that Season 8 will give Plec and Williamson the chance to finish the story the way they envisioned and give "The Vampire Diaries" fans a fantastic conclusion.

Moreover, Plec also teased during the Comic-Con panel that Nina Dobrev might appear in the TV series' final season to tie the loose ends of the story. It can be recalled that Dobrev, who played the major character Elena, left the show after Season 6.

"Nina has always said that if there's something for her to do in the series finale that she will be there to do it," the executive producer revealed to EW.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will return for the last time on CW on Friday, October 21 at 8 p.m. The final season will be composed of 16 episodes.
