'The X-Files' Season 11 News: 'The Sixth Sense' Star Haley Joel Osment to Guest Star

Haley Joel Osment has joined "The X-Files" season 11.

The actor of "The Sixth Sense" fame will be a guest star on the Fox drama's upcoming installment, according to reports. Osment will be heavily featured in the "Skinner"-centric (portrayed by series regular Mitch Pileggi) episode, but further details about his character were not revealed.

There are speculations that Osment will be taking on the role of Skinner's younger self. It is also possible that he will portray a person from Skinner's complicated past. If Osment's character will indeed be from the past, he could have the ability to see dead people — similar to his iconic role in "The Sixth Sense."

In his early days, Skinner lost a lot of people including his former comrades when he was still in Vietman. It is believed that Osment's character could be capable of seeing people who are already dead in the present but were still living in Skinner's past.

Fox recently released a new teaser for the next season, but it does not offer a lot of information. Fans are given a glimpse of Skinner's return and a conversation between him and Scully (Gillian Anderson). "We need your help, even if we don't trust you!" said Scully.

The rest of the clip features a quick montage of various scenes, including those that involve aliens. Other scenes also feature Mulder (David Duchovny) looking like he badly needs to sleep. This promo video follows the season 11 trailer unveiled earlier in October.

Throughout its initial nine-season run, "The X-Files" has won five Golden Globes, one Peabody Award and 16 Emmy Awards in total. The sci-fi mystery drama follows FBI special agents Mulder and Scully as they investigate on unexplained cases aka "X-Files," which involve paranormal phenomena.

"The X-Files" season 11 premieres midseason 2018 on Fox. A definitive release date has yet to be announced by the network.
