'Tomb Raider' Reboot Latest News: Upcoming Film's First Trailer Released
Lara Croft is set on making a grand return, and now, a trailer for the "Tomb Raider" reboot has finally been released.
It is no secret that the popular action-adventure film series "Tomb Raider" will be getting a reboot starring "Ex Machina" and "Danish Girl" actress Alicia Vikander. With this being said, it looks like there is no stopping the reboot from taking place as a trailer for the upcoming film has already been released and it features a younger and slightly less experienced Lara Croft on her way to become the iconic "Tomb Raider."
Unlike the 2001 film "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," starring Angelina Jolie, and its 2003 follow-up, "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life," that jumped straight into the adventure with the eponymous character already at the height of her career, this new film will basically be an origin story or something similar thereof. However, just like the previous films, the trailer shows that the reboot will open with Lara Croft returning home to find out that her father has died and has left behind a secret video message. In the video, Lara is instructed to go to a mysterious tomb called The Mother of Death before a sinister organization called the Trinity finds it, as the fate of humanity rests upon her doing so.
The trailer then jumps to action-heavy scenes where Lara becomes shipwrecked and then kidnapped by devious-looking armed men. She is also shown accomplishing impossible feats such as jumping from cliffs and solving puzzles which the character is known for.
Directed by Roar Uthaug, "Tomb Raider" was shot in South Africa and the UK. It was written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, with Gary Barber Graham King serving as producers. The film also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu.
"Tomb Raider" is coming to cinemas on March 16, 2018.
