'Transformers 5' for 2016 Premiere, Still Unclear Whether Michael Bay Would Return to Direct
The fourth Transformers film, "Transformers: Age of Exctinciton" was a commercial hit with Michael Bay leading the film as its director and Mark Wahlberg as its lead actor. While the films face harsh criticisms from film critics, it's success over its four films indicates there's no reason it would stop.
A fifth Transformer's film seems to be inevitable, with a release date already rumored for 2016 but over the past few weeks, there have been other speculations that Michael Bay won't be directing the next one and Wahlberg as well.
Bay's non-return to the franchise has been a hot topic for fans of the film and even the voice of Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen, wanted Bay back to direct the next installment. The Transformers director clearly stated that he had different plans in the realm of film and that he had a new direction in movies he wanted to make.
Wahlberg on the other hand doesn't look to be returning to the next film as well. He had also stated to media weeks before that he didn't think of "Age of Extinction" as a sequel but as a stand-alone film. Also, he says that he hasn't done a sequel – which is true – but that doesn't mean he won't start.
Megan Fox, who appeared on the first two Transformers film, could be making a return though. After the second film, she had some trouble with Bay which lead to her not non-appearance in the third and fourth films. She and Bay are okay now though and that was evident with her appearance as April O'Neil in Bay's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
Still, the fifth Transformer title is still some two years away. Bay and Wahlberg could change their minds and stay with the Transformers franchise with Megan Fox in tow.
