'True Detective' Season 2 Burns out Writer Nic Pizzolatto, May End Series After Season 3
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto recently made a statement that points to the possibility of the critically acclaimed show ending after just three seasons.
He was interviewed during the Banff World Media Festival where he admitted that the writing for the show, which he handles by himself has all but burnt him out thanks to its anthology format.
"Every season, I'm essentially creating a brand new TV show," he said. "It can't have any growing pains like a regular first season. If it works it has to work right out of the box. That's incredibly exhausting. I mean, the job is exhausting to begin with, but it's doubly exhausting and I'm writing every episode."

Pizzolatto also admitted that at this rate, the show might only last three seasons with him as the sole writer.
"I can't imagine I would do this more than three years," he said. "I mean, I'd like to have a regular TV show. We'll have some fixes sets, regular actors and I could bring in people to help and I don't have to be there every second. It'd be great."
Various casting rumors pointed to stars such as Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain starring in season 2. Pizzolatto shot down any of those claims in the recent interview.
"Literally, not a single rumor about casting that has been printed anywhere has any truth to it whatsoever," he said. "I mean that literally. I've seen entertainment reporters say 'My sources say ...' There are no sources. There's me and two other guys and they don't even know what I'm doing … I've talked to one person about it, possibly, and that has been it. We haven't cast anybody. I have a secret list and that's it."
