UFC 197 News: McGregor Brands Dos Anjos As 'Traitor' To Brazil
UFC featherweight champion and current lightweight title contender Conor McGregor has amped up the trash talking against Rafael dos Anjos, with still months ahead of their headliner at UFC 197.
The event is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
McGregor last faced Brazilian José Aldo, whom he drew the ire of. "The Notorious" did prove his words by knocking out the long-time world featherweight champion within 13 seconds of their bout at UFC 194 last December 12.
He will be going up against another Brazilian in dos Anjos, along with the country's rabid fight fan base. But instead of going against them, the ever-brash Irishman opted to be on the side of his opponent's countrymen. McGregor once again released his statements through his official Facebook page.
In the said post, he referred to the statement as the "McGregor Inc. executive business decision," while thanking his fans and supporters. As for the people of Brazil, McGregor says he is dedicating his foreseen victory to them, while calling dos Anjos an "American Gringo."
"He has chosen to dedicate this demolition job to the loyal people of Brazil and all the fans around the globe who stay true to their roots and loyal to their land," the Facebook post says. "Mr. McGregor has said that Rafael is a traitor to his people and vows to 'behead the "American Gringo" Rafael Dos Anjos, in the name of La Brasilia'"
Currently, dos Anjos trains full-time in the United States under renowned mentor Rafael Cordeiro in California. He trains alongside fellow Brazilian champion Fabricio Werdum.
Dos Anjos currently holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 25-7, with 13 victories by submission. He was on a three-fight winning streak before defeating Anthony "Showtime" Pettis for the title at UFC 185 in March 2015.
He last saw action in December, where he won against Donald Cerrone via first round TKO.
