UFC News 2015: Cerrone Implies Champ Dos Anjos On Performance Enhancing Drugs; McGregor Squashes Rumors Of Training With Another Team
UFC lightweight title contender Donald Cerrone has implied that champion Rafael Dos Anjos might have been on performance enhancing drugs. Cerrone will be challenging Dos Anjos for the 155-pound strap this weekend at UFC on FOX 17 in Orlando, Florida.
In an interview with MMA Fighting, "Cowboy" says that given the presence of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) style of testing for this fight, he is expecting to feel a "different strength" from Dos Anjos on fight night. He did clarify though that he wasn't going to focus too much on it.
"I don't dwell on the last fight or anything, it's a whole new thing," Cerrone said in the article. "I'm going out there, I'm looking to finish him, man."
Cerrone (28-6 and 1 no contest, with 20 victories by stoppage) had already fought Dos Anjos in August 2013. He lost by unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Conor McGregor's manager denied a recent statement of UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, claiming that "The Notorious" wanted to train away from his home gym of Straight Blast Gym in Dublin and go to Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, California, instead. In another report by MMA Fighting, Werdum made the statements during a recent media scrum, where he also stated that they denied the Irishman's request, as it is a form of betrayal to their "friend," José Aldo.
However, the McGregor camp denied Werdum's statements outright.
In the same report, Audie Attar, McGregor's manager, responded in behalf of "The Notorious", who explained that it was all about UFC middleweight Uriah Hall's intent to train with Kings. Attar adds that while they have an office near the location of Kings MMA, he says that the said statements were just untrue.
"He keeps his circle small, so this is someone making things up and feeding lies to Werdum," Attar said of his client.
During the UFC 194 post-fight press conference, McGregor also says that he is willing to go up to lightweight and fight for the 155-pound title next.
