UFC News 2015: Julianna Pena Arrested For Assault; Jim Ross Says Conor McGregor Is UFC's Hulk Hogan
UFC bantamweight Julianna Peña was arrested for alleged assault charges on Sunday night in Spokane, Washington.
In a report by MMA Fighting, the first woman to ever win The Ultimate Fighter reality series was involved in a bar fight with unidentified men in downtown Spokane. The report adds that Peña did identify herself as a professional fighter when police officers arrived on the scene to respond to the incident.
According to the municipal code in Spokane, the sanctions for such misdemeanors is a fine that does not exceed $5,000, a prison sentence that will not go beyond 365 days, or both. Another report by MMA Fighting revealed more details about the incident.
According to eyewitness accounts, Peña purportedly kicked an employee of the said bar in the groin. She then went on to do the same to the bar owner. The report adds that it all began when Peña and teammate Josh Gow tried to enter the bar after being previously involved in another street fight.
According to UFC vice president for Public Relations Dave Sholler, the company is still in the process of investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, former World Wrestling Entertainment broadcast panelist Jim Ross went on to compare current undisputed featherweight champion Conor McGregor to professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.
In a post he wrote for his official website "Jr's BarBQ," Ross first described "The Notorious" as the UFC's new "it guy," noting the Irishman's ability to be a big financial draw for the company. He did, however, give a piece of unsolicited advice to McGregor, particularly about the latter's spending habits.
"I hope that McGregor has a great financial planning in place where he's saving much more than he spends on toys, etc plus that this reminds me of when Hulk Hogan was white hot in WWF and when the booking sheets would be distributed that the boys on the road, when three shows a night was the norm, would first look to find Hogan's name and where he was booked and then examine that card to see if their name was listed too," Ross wrote.
