UFC News 2016: Diaz Says UFC Fined Him For Wearing Jeans At Weigh-in; Edgar Thinks McGregor 'Calls The Shots'
Former lightweight title contender and UFC veteran Nate Diaz was supposedly fined by the UFC for allegedly violating the company's Athlete Outfitting Policy.
In a report by Marc Raimondi for MMA Fighting, Diaz recently posted a tweet claiming he was penalized for wearing casual jeans during the weigh-ins of his December 19th fight at UFC on FOX 17.
"Those were #reebokjeans u should've just kept the whole check I don't need that baby ass shit anyway," Diaz wrote in his January 11 tweet.
The report adds that according to UFC senior vice president of global consumer products Tracey Bleczinski, three fighters were fined for the violation during the said event.
The said deal is reportedly worth $70 million and will span for a period of six years.
According to the agreement, fighters would not be allowed to wear any other apparel brand other than Reebok during fight week and in their matches. This had drawn the ire of many fighters, as a huge chunk of their earnings come from their own sponsored clothing brands.
Meanwhile, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar continues to air out his frustrations for not getting the title shot against Conor McGregor. "The Answer" was promised a title shot by UFC president Dana White during the Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale on December 11. Edgar won the fight via first round knockout against two-time 145-pound title contender Chad Mendes.
In a report by Chuck Mindelhall for MMA Fighting, Edgar believes McGregor's influence on the UFC's top management is greater than one perceives.
Edgar added that he feels Dana White, along with Lorenzo Fertitta and McGregor are actually against him.
The 34-year-old mixed martial artists had been campaigning for a title shot since he convincingly defeated former top contender Cub Swanson in 2014. But since he has once again been deprived of it, he feels the window of opportunity is closing in on him.
"I feel like I'm getting better, but time wins over everybody eventually, so I feel like I'm just missing out on opportunities left and right," Edgar said.
