'Ultraman Orb: THE CHRONICLE' Announcement News: Upcoming 'Ultra' Series to Feature Best Highlights of Gai Kurenai's Story
With "Ultraman Geed" nearing the end of its 25-episode run, the title for the next "Ultraman" season has been revealed.
"Ultraman Orb: THE CHRONICLE" aims to retell the story of the 2016 series, "Ultraman Orb," through the eyes of its protagonist, Gai Kurenai, and as such, is unlikely to feature any new material to add to its predecessor.
According to Henshin Justice, the upcoming series will instead be featuring the entire story of its title hero along with special television edits of his appearances in other shows, which is similar to the "Ultraman Zero: Chronicle" series that was aired during the first half of this year.
Appearances of Gai in other live-action special effects television series and movies include, "Ultraman Orb: Lend Me The Power of the Bonds," "Ultra Fight Orb," "Ultraman Orb: The Origin Saga," along with special guest appearances in other titles in Tsuburaya's "Ultra" series.
But since the previous chronicle series served as a prelude for Ultraman Zero's eventual appearance in "Ultraman Geed" as a series regular, could Orb's upcoming chronicle also serve the same function of paving the way for more appearances for Gai in an upcoming "Ultra" series?
Is Tsuburaya Productions setting up a pattern, or will this really be just a "greatest hits" treat for fans who miss seeing Ultraman Orb in action?
"Ultraman Orb" was aired in celebration of the "Ultra" series' 50th anniversary, and ran for 25 episodes from July 9 to Dec. 24, 2016.
"Ultraman Orb: THE CHRONICLE" premieres next year on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 9 a.m. JST on TV Tokyo.
Meanwhile, the ongoing "Ultraman Geed" airs on Saturdays at 9 a.m. JST on TV Tokyo. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official TV Tokyo page. Episodes are available in selected regions outside Japan via Crunchyroll.
