Virtual Reality Headset HTC Vive Pre-Order To Start in February
The year 2016 kicked off pretty well in the tech world as new devices arrived left and right. It's not even done yet because more gadgets are still to come including the HTC Vive, which is noted by Pop Science as one of the "most advanced virtual reality headsets in the world."
According to the site, HTC introduced the second generation VR headset during the CES 2016. It was revealed at the event that they have renamed it as the Vive Pre and added a small front-facing camera that will help users avoid bumping into objects whenever they are using the product.
It's no doubt a very promising and exciting technological breakthrough to look forward to. Fortunately, it won't be long until tech junkies and interested consumers can try it on. As reported by The Telegraph, HTC will begin to take pre-orders for Vive Pre on Feb. 29.
There's still no announcement on a specific date of shipping though, as well as a price. But as noted in The Verge, HTC will make the reveal of the release date, pricing and final consumer design sometime close to the pre-order date.
There are speculations though as to how much the HTC VR headset will cost. CNET pointed that since the Oculus Rift costs $599, the Vive Pre is most likely to be more expensive than that. It may be possible since the company is aiming to go premium over the competition.
The product was also supposed to ship last year. HTC decided to push back the release date in order to add some finishing touches including the front-facing camera that will let users have a unique experience of a mixed reality view.
Vive Pre has also been developed with game maker Valve so that they can provide an experience for the user who is fully immersed in their virtual environment while playing games. HTC is promising exciting things ahead with their virtual reality headset and fans should stay tuned for further updates.
