Walmart Shooting Motive Remains a Mystery After Employee Guns Down Victim in Wisconsin (VIDEO)
The motive for the Walmart shooting in a local Wisconsin store remains a mystery Thursday morning, after one employee allegedly shot another employee inside the store, leaving the victim in critical condition and fighting for her life.
The Walmart shooting suspect has been identified as 46-year-old Justine Boyd, according to reports. Boyd, an employee at the Walmart store is accused of shooting a fellow 56-year-old employee in the torso on Wednesday morning.
The incident reportedly took place in the Walmart store's liquor section, and police officers responded to emergency calls regarding the shooting around 11.15 a.m.
Boyd was arrested at the store, and police also reportedly recovered a handgun at the scene. There were no customers in the liquor section when the incident took place on Wednesday, and no one else was harmed.
Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson spoke about the grave condition of the victim, who has not been publicly identified yet, "We're still very concerned for the victim. We're obviously all hoping and praying for the best for her."
Boyd has been booked on a charge of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. She was also a cashier at the liquor section.
Wilkinson spoke to reporters about possible reasons for the shooting: "We're digging around trying to get that information, but so far, at least, there hasn't been a simple explanation. The whole thing is really weird. We are in close contact with [the victim's] family at the hospital and trying to be as helpful as possible during this difficult time."
Walmart said in a statement, "Our commitment right now is to work with law enforcement [to] provide them any information we have that might be useful for their investigation."
The victim was rushed by ambulance to the Theda Clark Medical Center. Officials confirmed she had suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso. A hospital spokesperson has confirmed that the victim is in a critical condition, but also did not offer any details about the worker's identity.
According to the Post-Crescent Media, a Walmart employee later also claimed that both women were cashiers employed at the store, and it is likely that they knew each other.
