Warner Bros. Changes Title of 'The Jungle Book' Movie, Releases First Official Synopsis

Andy Serkis' "Jungle Book" movie got a new name. On Tuesday, Warner Bros. announced that it's changing the name of the live-action movie from "Jungle Book: Origins" to "Mowgli."

It has been a while since Warner Bros. gave an update on the "Jungle Book" movie. Previously, the studio reportedly had to put the project on the back burner as it went back to the books to redevelop its vision for the film, with the help of "Gravity" director Alfonso Cuaron. Although the "Jungle Book" sequel seems far off the distance, it looks like the development of the highly-anticipated film is finally taking off.

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. released along with the unveiling of the movie's new title the first official synopsis of the movie, hinting that the project might be entering the production phase soon. The movie will be directed by Serkis and is expected to open in theaters two years after Disney released the first live-action adaptation of "The Jungle Book," which was directed by Jon Favreau.

"Mowgli" is based on the Rudyard Kipling series "The Jungle Book," which tells the story of the human child Mowgli. The synopsis for "Mowgli" reveals that as the child is raised by a group of wolves in the Indian jungle, he learns the harsh rules of the forest. In an environment filled with animals, a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera serve as his parents. While every animal in the jungle sees him as their own, the tiger Shere Khan does otherwise. Eventually, Mowgli decides to look for his roots and comes face to face with his human origins.

"Mowgli's" voice cast includes Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Naomie Harris, Peter Millan, Jack Reynor, Eddie Marsan, Tom Hollander, Freida Pinto and Matthew Rhys.

The film will be available in 2D and 3D on Oct. 19, 2018.
