'Wayward Pines' Rumors, Spoilers and Cast Details: Next Season Likely to Get Green Light, But Will Be the Show's Last, Says Crouch
M. Night Shmayalan's "Wayward Pines" has successfully brought Blake Crouch's novels to life for the past two seasons. The mystery/science fiction television series has certainly captured the imagination of viewers worldwide, but apparently not enough that its Season 3 has yet to be greenlighted. Should fans move on?
Looks like they ought to sit still, as no less than FOX TV's head honcho Dana Walden has all but approved of "Wayward Pines" renewal. In an interview with TVLine, the Fox Television Group CEO said she "definitely thought" there should be a Season 3 for the embattled series. She went on to laud "Wayward Pines" as "the No. 1" scripted show of the summer, despite having exhausted its source material on its first season alone.

Walden also talked about what she thought of the series: its "creative meandering" during "Wayward Pines" Season 2, and how she thinks it can be improved. She said she and executive producer Shyamalan agreed that it was difficult to keep the series on track during the first two episodes of the season, but that it began to hit its stride by the third episode.
Walden also revealed that the producers have a compelling "Wayward Pines" Season 3, which could be enough to kickstart production for its return. This supported Blake Crouch's earlier statements, who said Season 3 would find half of Wayward Pines going back into suspension. It would also attempt to answer some pretty heavy questions, like what humanity would do if it was made aware of its impending demise.

But if the show does go on for its third season, Crouch revealed it would be the final arc for "Wayward Pines." He's setting the show up to "stay true" to its original theme and tone, meaning fans shouldn't expect a happy, hokey ending. Crouch said he wanted a "honest, incredibly poignant" ending, possibly in line with the ultimate arc of extinction and survival.
No reason to cross a bridge before getting there, however. While "Wayward Pines" got a definitive ending for Season 2 (just in case it wasn't renewed for Season 3), fans are expecting the Abbies to breach Wayward Pines. Parent Herald quoted Jason Patric saying viewers should not get attached to the characters in "Wayward Pines" Season 3, as it's likely that they will all get killed off by Abbies or by some new unknown enemy.
What will happen to Theo Yedlin, CJ Mitchum and the other humans put under cryostasis? Hopefully "Wayward Pines" would get a greenlight soon!
