What is Barack Obama Doing Now? Former US President Called to Serve Jury Duty

His time at the White House may have ended, but former U.S. President Barack Obama is ready to offer his services once more to the country as it is revealed that he has been called for jury duty.

According to The Chicago Tribune, Chief Judge Timothy Evans of Cook County, Illinois, himself has called the former president for jury duty and will be doing so beginning next month. He will be joining the likes of fellow U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush who both served on the jury after their terms.

Chief Judge Evans first told the county commissioners about Obama's jury duty during their budget hearing. Obama, 56, owns homes in both the Washinton, D.C., and Chicago, which is part of Cook County.

Adjustments will be made in order to accommodate the former president's security detail. "Obviously we will make certain that he has all the accouterments that accompany a former president. His safety will be uppermost in our minds," Evans says.

With Barack Obama serving as a juror, he would become the biggest name to ever appear for jury duty in Cook County. However, several celebrities and politicians have also served as jurors for the county in the past including the likes of Oprah Winfrey and retired professional wrestler, Mr. T.

The exact date and location for Obama's jury duty are still unknown, but there is without a doubt that the former president will be serving as juror sometime next month.

"He made it crystal-clear to me through his representative that he would carry out his public duty as a citizen and resident of this community... Although it's not a place where the public can earn a lot of money, it is highly appreciated. It's crucial that our society get the benefit of that kind of commitment," Evans remarked about Obama's willingness to serve.
