What Is The Meaning and True Purpose of Life?
One of life's mysteries is finding out what its meaning and purpose is. The answer varies depending on one's belief, situation and motivation. Some are driven by greed, fame and other selfish ends. Others strive for goodness and righteousness, believing it is the path to nirvana.
For a Christian however, the purpose and meaning of life is to worship, serve and please God. Scriptures tell us that God created us for his glory (Isaiah 43:7). As such, our ultimate purpose should be to glorify our Creator. Everything we do should be for His glory.
This starts with acknowledging that He is our Creator and no other being could be compared to His majesty and might. That is what true worship is. In other words, we should recognize that He, the Creator, is the master and we, the creation, are His servants.
A servant follows the master's commandments. In our case, we must follow God's commandments and instructions in the Bible. Whatever situation we are in, our goal is to please God by leading other people to Him, showing His love and generosity to the less fortunate, and being the light of the world.
However, we lost the right to do these things when man sinned against God. But the Lord, in his mercy and love, found a way to restore our broken relationship with Him so that we can resume serving and worshiping Him. If His Son Jesus did not die on the cross, all our efforts to please Him would be for naught.
Unfortunately, the majority of His creation are rebellious and have carved their own paths in finding meaning and purpose in life. Many of them actually find joy in their pointless pursuits without realizing they are serving the enemy who is leading them to perdition.
King Solomon tried treading a path of debauchery and self-gratification, but in his wisdom, reached the conclusion that the only life worth lived is one of honor and obedience to God. To do otherwise would be a waste of our life. We only have one life to live so make it count.
