Why Are Chip and Joanna Gaines Quitting 'Fixer Upper?'

Chip and Joanna Gaines are leaving their HGTV series "Fixer Upper" after its upcoming season 5.

On Sept. 26, the reality stars shocked fans when they announced that season 5 will mark the show's end. Chip recently explained why they have decided to pull the plug on the home remodeling program in his upcoming book, "Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff."

"It was really easy for us to feel like we could do it all when the show and the business were in the early stages," the general contractor wrote (via Business Insider). "But the bigger things got — and they got big fast — the less energy we had to devote to all three. So much time was being allocated to filming that the details of the business were slipping."

Chip further explained that he and Joanna had to juggle three things in their life: their business, their home life with four children and their TV series. The Gaineses chose to focus on their family and their business endeavors instead.

Another reason for the show's cancellation is security concerns. Reports note that Chip and Joanna are worried about their kids' safety, especially now that many fans have been visiting their home to take pictures.

Fans might not realize that the Gaineses' business in Waco, Texas, predates their HGTV program by more than a decade. In the early years of Chip and Joanna's marriage, they spent most of their time on their retail store business, the Magnolia Market.

After its opening in 2003, the shop was eventually closed after the birth of their two children. Slowly, the couple went back to being entrepreneurs by launching Magnolia Homes — the construction business that caught HGTV's attention in 2012.

Chip and Joanna are parents to Drake, 12, Ella, 10, Duke, 9, and Emmie, 7.

The fifth and final season of "Fixer Upper" premieres November on HGTV.
