Why Is Jesus Our Savior?
God created man for a special purpose: To have dominion over His creation. God's position can be likened to the CEO or the owner of the company. He appointed man to administer the company or run its operations. Being special, man was placed in the Garden of Eden where he was well taken care of.
We all know what happened next. Adam and Eve, man's first parents, disobeyed God by eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3:6) in the event called the fall of mankind. They were driven out of the garden and from then, man has been separated from God by sin.
The rest of the Old Testament details man's sinful nature. On many, many occasions God tried to reach out to His people with covenants that were repeatedly broken. With hardened hearts, they rebelled against God by worshiping false deities and succumbing to wickedness.

At some point, man tried to set things right with God through good deeds and offering sacrifices, but these were never enough. Man was hopeless. The only way to redeem him was for someone great and powerful enough to pay for his sins. It had to take His Son to do that.
And so, God the Son came down to earth in the form of man and was named Jesus. His mission was to save mankind by restoring his relationship with God. While the easiest thing may be for the Lord to reset things, that would be cheating, which goes against His very nature as a Holy God.
The only way to save man was for Jesus to suffer and die on the cross (Isaiah 53:5). It has been cast and cannot be taken back. And so, it happened. What Christ gave us is the most precious gift of salvation. Without it, all our efforts to win God's mercy and favor would have remained futile (Romans 3:10).
