Windows 10 Anniversary Update: 5 Features and Functionality That Microsoft Will Take Away After Availing the Free Major Update

Windows 10 Anniversary Update, the biggest free update of Microsoft's latest OS, will be released on Aug. 2. The multifaceted package promises new features and functionality that will give consumers and enterprises an improved and secured user experience.

Early this month, Christian Post enumerated the exciting new features and functionality that users can look forward to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. These include enhanced Cortana capabilities, advanced gaming experience, improved internet browser and efficient security features.

But before you get excited about this free offer, it is also important to be aware that availing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update would mean losing some of its old features and functionality. Here are the five features and functionality that Microsoft will take away after you get the major update:

1. The 'All apps' button will be taken away.

According to PC World, the "All apps" button of the Start menu will be removed after you get the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. The longstanding feature, which is known as "All programs" in the older versions of Windows, will be replaced with a list of installed apps arranged in alphabetical order.

2. Cortana can't be turned off.

Beta News reported that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update will not allow users to turn Cortana off. Instead of the option to turn off the voice assistant, new configuration settings will be presented, including options to enable or disable Cortana on the lock screen and taskbar. Microsoft clarified that if users do not like using Cortana, they can remove the text entry box of the voice assistant from the taskbar.

3. The 'Wi-Fi Sense' will be gone.

After availing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, the "Wi-Fi Sense" will be taken away. The Wi-Fi login sharing feature will be removed from both PCs and Windows phones. But users should not worry about losing this feature. The "Wi-Fi Sense's" secondary feature that prompts about an open Wi-Fi network will be retained.

4. The 'Kid's Corner' feature will be removed.

"Kid's Corner," a feature that can be found in Windows phones, will also be going away. This feature is used to give children a kid-friendly space on a Windows phone while locking them out from other parts. Phone owners who have been using "Kid's Corner" may resort to the alternative feature called "Apps Corner."

5. The 'Get Windows 10' app will not be visible again.

The removal of the "Get Windows 10" app is expected considering that Microsoft has already announced that it will stop providing free Windows 10 upgrade. The notification pop-ups that offer free Windows 10 upgrade will not only be removed from Windows 10 PCs but also from computers using Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.
