World's Longest Yard Sale Kicks Off, Spans 690 Miles
The world's longest yard sale has officially begun, and this year it covers an astonishing 690 miles from Michigan to Alabama. The yard sale is an annual event regularly featured on HGTV due to its massive size.
This sale, sponsored by the City of Jamestown, Tennessee, is in its 17th year and has only grown with age. According to its website, this year the sale spans "654 miles and five states. It's impossible to keep track of how many shoppers and vendors we have, but it's grown to be the biggest and best event of its kind in the world."
Home and Garden TV (HGTV) has started filming the event for a 1-hour special. The station began dedicating an hour to the sale in 2010 and now makes it an annual event entitled "HGTV's Endless Yard Sale." Vendors can have the opportunity to show off their wares and gain valuable TV time on the channel.

"In years past, we have tried all different routes," said HGTV producer Michelle McDonald. "We've started in the South and went up, and we've started in the North and made our way south as far as we could."
This year the show will focus primarily on Tennessee.
"There is so much great stuff in that area," McDonald explained to Nooga.com. "We've had a lot of success there. One goal of the show is for audiences to experience the endless yard sale to the fullest and to get to know the vendors and get to see the beautiful landscape."
Fans of the sale know it as the 127 Corridor Sale, named for its location along Highway 127. This year it spans from Gadsden, Alabama to Hudson, Michigan. Many buyers choose to make reservations at local hotels in order to assure the best deals and enough time to visit all the vendors.
The 127 Sale has something for everyone, according to its brochure: "from farm fresh produce, to home-made quilts, crafts, antiques, and amazing scenery." The sale lasts until Sunday, Aug. 5.
