WWE 2016 Rumors: The New Day to Lose Tag Titles at Clash of Champions? Gallows & Anderson Finally Getting Pushed

A WWE pay-per-view would not be complete without a battle for a title. It would not be as exciting if the titles would not change hands. And for the case of Clash of Champions, it would be blasphemy to name an event as such without a "championship" twist.

A lot of belts are on the line this Sunday in the Raw-exclusive PPV. The pressure is on the red brand to impress after SmackDown Live's Backlash 2016 crushed doubters with a superb showing of a smaller roster.

That said, title changes would be necessary to its success. It did so for SmackDown when AJ Styles beat Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship to a huge crowd pop; and it looks like Raw has a big one in store.

A 'New Day'

A lot has been said among wrestling pundits and the WWE Universe on The New Day's supremacy. The wacky trio of Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods have held the Tag Team Championship (now the Raw-exclusive belts) for over a year now.

Some say they have had a stellar run so far, having their own share of ups and downs but still deserving to be the longest-reigning tag champs. Others see them as a brand that had gone stale over time, jokers who still cannot be taken seriously in the WWE.

However, the debate might finally be put to rest at Clash of Champions. Rumor has it that the team of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will be the one to end The New Day's streak.

Gallows and Anderson came off NJPW's Bullet Club, a white-hot stable led at separate points by now-WWE superstars Finn Balor and AJ Styles. However, they were not given an illustrious push, despite clamor from the fans. Sure, they were given a title shot vs. the tag champs at SummerSlam 2016, but they ended up losing the match and their momentum as well.

Making them win the titles at this point would let new blood dominate the tag team scene - and Gallows and Anderson are an exciting pair to say the least. They also have to move on from a feud that was criticized for being underwhelming.

KO losing so soon?

It is a long shot, considering Kevin Owens had only held the belt for less than a month. But with WWE Raw ratings sagging, there is now a speculation that KO would lose the title at Clash of Champions to Seth Rollins.

This rumor, however, does not make much sense based on WWE's storyline. Rollins had been set up for a babyface turn and making him win despite not having reached his full good-guy status might ruin the prospect altogether. The same goes with Owens, who had turned into Raw's top heel.

Kickoff show starts at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST, while the main show starts at 8:00 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST, on WWE Network and select cable providers.
