WWE 2016 Rumors: WWE Bidding to Buy TNA? Bid Details and Wrestling Superstars

Total Nonstop Action is a professional wrestling promotion that keeps trying to equal the fame and fortune of the biggest brand in the industry. But the WWE is a tough act to follow, and thus, TNA had struggled to fulfill this cause for the longest time.

To add insult to injury, WWE had reportedly put in a bid to buy the promotion. However, wrestling pundits criticize this move as it may put good sports programming out of business altogether.

It is no secret that TNA had always been subpar to WWE, with the latter getting around three million viewers a week for both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. They also gather hundreds of thousands of people during pay-per-views.

TNA often had great talent, though. This was proven by the arrival of one of their best wrestlers, veteran AJ Styles, to WWE. Styles had impressed so far during his debut year, feuding with babyfaces John Cena, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. He eventually defeated Ambrose at Backlash 2016 to win his first WWE Championship.

TNA's flaw, however, is the fact that they let Styles and more superstars seek a change of scenery. Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode and, more recently, former champion Eric Young all went to NXT, WWE's developmental promotion.

For TNA's part, though, they are starting to improve their programming. One of their best angles ever took place this year, led by former WWE Superstars Matt and Jeff Hardy. Matt recreated himself into "Broken" Matt Hardy, calling Jeff "Brother Nero." Two TNA special segments focused on Matt trying to "delete" Jeff, establishing himself as the only rightful bearer of the Hardy name.

Possible downfall

TNA reached its recent success beginning the addition Smashing Pumpkins vocalist and new co-owner Billy Corgan. However, Dixie Carter had struggled to keep the company upright for the most part.

Two rumors have come up from this conversation. One, Dixie Carter may be leaving TNA. Two, TNA might be sold to the highest bidder—one such bidder reportedly being WWE.

WWE would not benefit from keeping TNA on television, as it would be redundant to NXT. It would not need to eliminate it as a competitor, either, as it had never gave WWE a run for its money like WCW did.

TNA does have a hefty video library, which contains footage of Styles, Christian, Sting and Kurt Angle. These content can then be shown on the WWE Network.

Other potential suitors include Sinclair Broadcasting, which currently owns Ring of Honor, and Corgan, who plans to take over the company.
