WWE Latest News: Updates On King Barret's Injury Status, Mauro Ranallo Speaks About Changes In 'SmackDown' Program

Updates on World Wrestling Entertainment superstar King Barrett have been released, while mixed martial arts commentator turned 'SmackDown' voice Mauro Ranallo revealed how the show will be undergoing changes in its format.

In a report Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, the former intercontinental champion was believed to be suffering a nerve injury on his neck. It is, however, reported to be a non-serious setback.

In another report by Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report, Barrett's absence "came at the worse possible time", noting that it could be a momentum killer, given that he already has his character back on a "promising path".

Barrett is now among the long list of fighters who are currently on the shelves, with names such as John Cena, Randy Orton, Cesaro, and Daniel Bryan, among others.

"Having Barrett go out at a time when he was finally getting direction makes the situation all the more disappointing," Conway wrote.

Meanwhile, newly appointed SmackDown commentator Mauro Ranallo also gave updates on how his new show will be looking from hereon.

Ranallo was just given the new job a few days ago, and in an interview with John Snowden of Bleacher Report, he also revealed how Smackdown's "brand-new platform" would look.

"I get the sense they want to make it kind of a hybrid between RAW, the flagship show with all the storylines and great performances from our Superstars in the ring, and what's happening in NXT," Ranallo said.

Ranallo adds that the decision to make a hybrid of both of the company's flagship shows will only bring out a better situation.

"I think if SmackDown can become a hybrid of the two, we'll have a winning formula regardless of who's on the microphone," he adds in the interview.

The new look for SmackDown is set to take effect on Thursday, January 7th of the coming year, and will be carried by the USA Network.
