WWE News and Updates 2016: The Return of Daniel Bryan? Wrestling Star Teases Possible Comeback
Can The Miz's pipebomb force the Yes! Man back into the ring?
For a member of the wrestling's storyline top brass, WWE superstar Daniel Bryan is still a fan favorite. Authoritative figures do not really get as much "pops" from the crowd as Bryan does, as was the case of Triple H and the McMahons.
So it was no surprise that fans got pumped when, in an altercation between The Miz and the American Dragon, the latter confirmed that he would return to the ring should the company allow him.
With a possible comeback in the works, questions arise not only on the SmackDown Live General Manager's health and capabilities, but on the risks wrestlers face in-ring as well.
'Cowards'
During the post-SmackDown Live interview segment "Talking Smack," Bryan was again behind the desk with Renee Young for a talk with The Miz and Maryse. However, a few comments by Bryan on The Miz's wrestling style made the situation uncomfortably realistic.
Bryan called out The Miz for being a "coward" in the ring. He brought up The Miz's fear of getting hit and high-risk maneuvers, calling him the epitome of a "soft" wrestler in the independent circuit where Bryan used to perform.
This enraged The Miz who then stood from his chair and ranted full on in Bryan's face. He said he battles in-ring "each and every week," throwing the criticisms back at Bryan.
"You're the one calling me a coward, but you're the one who doesn't get back in the WWE ring again," The Miz said.
Bryan, may it be scripted or real, looked pissed and stood, but not before responding to The Miz that should the WWE allow him to return, he would. The Intercontinental Champion, meanwhile, told Bryan to just quit WWE and go back to the "bingo halls" where he used to wrestle and claimed that he will make his title the most relevant in the company.
Possible return?
Bryan's bomb Tuesday night naturally ruffled some feathers and prompted eager fans to suggest a comeback for the star of the "Yes!" Movement. He had been forced to retire in February 2016, due to worsening head trauma following multiple concussions he suffered throughout his long career.
Recently, he had reportedly been cleared by his doctors at UCLA to go back to his beloved job, but not by the WWE medical team. However, a WWE insider revealed that the company had not yet shut its doors on the crowd-pleaser's in-ring return.
Regardless of the clamor, Bryan returning to sports entertainment might lead him to an even more dangerous situation. The 35-year-old had been suffering from seizures attributed to his numerous concussions, in addition to "slowing" of the brain and chronic lesions. Prior to this, Bryan also had nerve injuries, incapacitating his arms and stripping him of his last title.
A return to the ring and more bumps could mean life and death for Bryan. He was not the first to bring up severe concussions as a huge problem - the last one was Chris Benoit, who killed his family and himself. His actions were largely attributed to brain damage as tests had determined that his brain already resembled that of an "85-year-old Alzheimer's patient."
Daniel Bryan might still have a lot of fight left in him along with the crowd's unwavering support. But if he makes one wrong decision, he might suffer from consequences far more serious than an angry wrestler's rant.
